Large French Antique Copper Cul de Poule
This beautiful copper bowl is quite large and made with thick heavy copper. It has a rustic rolled copper edge and two rivet joined cast iron handles as well as a hook for hanging. This cul de poule is both practical and, at the same time, it would look amazing hanging in a kitchen. It’s stunning glow would add warmth and a French country kitchen ambience.
Culs de poules , when translated from French to English, literally means ‘chicken ‘asses’. It is the term used for the copper bowls used for whisking egg whites. Copper can bind sulphur groups. As the whisk hits the copper bowl, miniscule bits of copper bind to the egg white proteins and the sulphur groups are unable to form strong disulfide bonds. Egg whites whipped in a copper bowl stay glossy and firm without the risk of becoming over beaten and grainy. And of course, there is also the romance associated with the warm glow of a copper bowl, whether held in the arms for whipping or hanging on the kitchen wall.
This cul de poule is approximately 40 cms in diameter. It measures approximately 21 cms in height and it is in very good condition.
